There are a few different ways that hardware on a personal computer or company computer can be destroyed. These different types include overwriting, degaussing, and physical destruction. Partners Plus uses the technique of physical destruction and this article is going to explain why. Overwriting and degaussing are the two other most common methods but they entail more cons than the technique that Partners Plus uses physical destruction.
Overwriting is one of the easiest ways to destroy data from computers. This process involves buying software that overwrites old code with new code through a software program that the computer user needs to purchase. This approach is great for personal computers, however, when it comes to large company computers that hold a lot more data than things become a little more difficult. The process of rewriting code on a company computer can become too lengthy and unproductive.
Another process is called degaussing which can be used on hard drives, floppy disks, and magnetic tape. This way of deleting data from a computer is beneficial because it securely removes all the data once the magnetic field in the storage disk or drive is removed. The first con to using degaussing to destroy data from a computer is that the equipment is expensive. The second con to using the method of degaussing is that it emits magnetic fields and this leads to a safety hazard.
The process that Partners Plus uses to destroy our own and our client’s hardware is physical destruction. The benefit of physical destruction is that it’s really the only entirely secure option because the hardware is being crushed or shredded and this ensures that the hard drive cannot be used in anyone else’s computer. There have been cases where spiteful employees take hard drives to steal company data or hackers can get their hands on this type of hardware and try to get money from the company owner in return for the hard drive.
